Discover Simkins Elementary

Simkins Elementary is a welcoming teaching and learning environment where all stakeholders can feel safe and supported. We strive to create leaders and thinkers who will make the world a better place.

Experience Why Families Choose Us

In honor of our namesake George Simkins Jr., we teach and positively reinforce a culture of respect, responsibility, and excellent academic achievement. We believe EVERY student has the potential to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Student Supports

Our school features a vibrant ACES program as well as spring afterschool tutoring for 3rd through 5th grade students. We are a proud Telehealth location and will begin collaborating with Cone Health to provide students with mental health supports such as individual counseling. We are also a PBIS school and teach and celebrate positive behavioral expectations both monthly and quarterly.

Points of Pride

  • Caring and highly qualified staff
  • Student leadership opportunities
  • Consistent home to school communication so that all families are "in the know" with the "shark-tastic" things we have going on!
  • Purple Star school with supports and celebrations in place for our military families

Academic Opportunities

All grade levels explore the community we live in with field trips. In addition, all students participate in a Simkins Community Career Day in the spring where family members are invited to share their job, career, or hobby with our students in order to expose them to a variety of careers.

All students have the chance to participate in at least 2 musical performances a year. 3rd through 5th grade students have the chance to participate with the Student Council and Leader-In-Training. 4th and 5th grade students also have the opportunity to participate with Battle of the Books. Our 2nd grade students participate in learning to play Chess with "The Knight School" of Greensboro and the Learn to Swim initiative through the Aquatic Center.
